PRESS RELEASE
Pre-registration Encouraged for Winter Fest Activities
Lake City, Minn. – Those interested in participating in some of this year’s Winter Fest activities including smoosh races, bowling, the polar plunge, and the craft and sellers’ market are encouraged to pre-register.
Registration forms can be found on Lake City Better Futures’ Web site, [click here]. This year’s festivities will take place on January 30 and 31. LCBF revived Winter Fest last year after many years of hibernation.
Smoosh races will begin immediately following the 1 p.m. Opening Ceremony at Patton Park on Saturday, January 30. Racers must provide their own 2x4, eight feet long skis, and their feet can be attached any way they would like. The Marian Schumacher Memorial Adult Child Bowling Event, sponsored by the Lake City Bowling Hall of Fame, will take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday at Port of Call Lanes.
The craft and sellers’ market at Lincoln High School will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 31. LCBF invites anyone interested to have a booth. The polar plunge will kick-off at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Ohuta Park. Plungers will jump in order of registration, so those who pre-register early will be first to go. Participants can jump as individuals or as groups. A minimum of $50 in pledges is required per person. Proceeds from the plunge will be split equally between Lake City Nursing Home and Lake City Food Shelf.
In addition to pre-registrations, discounted adult tickets are available to Sunday’s Dad’s Belgian Waffle Brunch. The brunch will take place in the cafeteria at Lincoln High School from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased for $6.50 at the following Lake City businesses: Marien’s Deli, Huettl’s Meat, Lake City Chamber of Commerce and the Corner Closet. Most LCBF members also have tickets for sale. Tickets will cost $7.50 for adults the day of the brunch and $5.50 for kids ages 6-11. Kids 5 and younger can eat for free.
Other Winter Fest activities include winter carnival events, sleigh rides, snow shoe walking, cross country skiing, a live performance by Backlash, and a fireworks show. For a complete list of events and times, [click here].
